Chapter 24: Progress

POV Change

It's only been over a month since the fire nation sent me to this small town to forge weapons for their 'climbers'. I was skeptical of the tower at first, the stories I had been told of its great opportunity for power but soon I had entered it myself and found the power to take my crafting to new heights.

Name: Lee

Class: Crafter

Level: 11

XP: 123/250

Strength- 11

Endurance-7

Agility: 3

Constitution: 3

Will: 2

Mind: 1

Spirit: 1

Skills: [Swordsmanship 1] [Spears 1] [Blacksmith 5]

Abilities: [Identify]

Once the fire nation found the class choice for crafter they had quickly assigned guards to help me make it to level ten. Now though that wasn't necessary, with the crafter class I got experience every time I forged. Even with my recent improvements in forging I had yet to see any real benefits. That was until I bought this blue stone off of some high level climber.

[Identify: Mana Stone: this stone is used in making magic items, for simple enhancements crush into a fine powder and mix with molten metal]

"Hey, Lee, you have my sword ready?" A voice broke through my thoughts.

Looking up to the entrance of my forge I saw a young fire nation soldier "Yeah I have it ready".

"Thanks, here's the payment" He said, leaving some coins on the counter.

Walking over to a rack I pulled down a cutlass; not exactly standard issue but the kid was good with it; then threw it in its sheath and tossed it over.

"Thanks again see you" he said running off.

"Alright let's try this" I said, putting up the closed sign.

Walking over to my storage I grabbed two bars of iron and brought them over the forge, throwing them into a heat-resistant bowl. Carefully balancing it over the fire I waited as the metal melted into liquid. Leaving it for a minute I quickly grabbed my forging hammer and started breaking the mana stone into as small bits as I could manage. Then when it was crushed I threw it in with the molten metal and watched as the liquid became just a shade brighter. Powering the metal into a ready mold I waited for it to cold then used tongs to take it out. The real forging process was about to begin.

Almost a whole day later I had what looked like a standard Dadao; the standard fire nation sword, though at the right angle the blade was a slight blue.

[Identify: Magic Sword: this sword is imbued with slight magic making it slightly sharper and sturdier]

[+50 XP]

"Hahaha, I actually did it" I cheered. "I should inform the Advisor"

Wrapping the sword in some cloth I ran out of my store towards the newly opened Guild building. Bursting through the front door I was met with the loud sounds of people getting their guild cards and complaining about their assigned rank.

"Move!" I yelled.

An employee approached me "Im sorry sir you will have to wait"

"I am not here for the guild, I need to speak to Advisor Dao Mu" I responded.

"The vice guild master?" he asked 'He's upstairs in his office"

"Thanks" I pushed back them and ran up the stairs entering one of the offices to my left.

"Unless you have an appointment I suggest you get out" Dao Mu said angrily.

"Sir, my name is Lee. I am a blacksmith and I have something to show you" I quickly replied.

"A Blacksmith" he started "I don't have time for any of your.."

"Please it will only take a moment and it will be well worth it" I interrupted.

"Fine but if you waste my time I will have you sent back to the fire nation"

"It's about this sir" I said, putting the covered sword on the table.

Opening the cloth he asked "A sword?"

"Sir it's about what it is made with"

"Go on"

"At level ten I chose the identify skill for my crafter class. Recently though a high level climber had me repair his spear and I bought a small blue stone from him"

"So you discovered a new metal?" He inquired.

"No sir, when I identified it, the information said it could be used to craft magic weapons"

Finally going speechless I had to wait a moment for him to say "Magic weapons?"

"Yes sir, my ability told me to crush the stone then mix it with the molten metal. The result was this blade which is supposed to be sharper and steadier"

"Are you messing with me?" He asked skeptically.

"No sir, you are welcome to have it inspected yourself"

"No, need. If you are willing to burst into my office without warning then you must have an actual reason for doing so" He replied.

"Thank you"

"Do you know where he got the stone?"

"I do not know the exact place, but he did say it was in the upper levels so maybe the nest?"

"I will have my men get right on it. No." he begun "You should go downstairs and make a request of the guild for these stones as well"

"Yes sir"

POV Go Rehi

Punching my fist upward I watched as a spiky ant got impaled by a spare of earth. Quickly turning aroundI threw a boulder at another large ant.

Seeing the notification I quickly made a crevice in the wall burning myself to keep from being injured.

"Status," I said.

"Just one more level left," I said to myself. Ever since Tower Master Callum mentioned level twenty I have been throwing myself into the dungeon over and over again in my efforts to level up. "One more level to go"

Continuing my way through the dungeon I came upon an opening to a circular room. At the center of it was a very large ant. It had armor covering most of its body and its two mandibles were like swords.

"Sir, what should we do?" A soldier asked behind me.

"We need to keep separated, keep to the edges. There is only one of them after all" I answered.

"Yes sir" all three replied.

We entered the cavern and spread along the edges. When the ant noticed us, it immediately rushed at me. Punching my hand out a large boulder detached from the wall slamming into it breaking on impact.

"Shit" I said diving out of the way.

Standing back up I pulled some earth from beneath me launching me further away.

"Attack!" I yelled.

My three subordinates rushed at the ant using their abilities to enhance their attacks only leaving a few scratched.

"Mutun" I yelled as one of them got impaled by the ant's legs.

Launching myself to the ceiling I covered my feet in rock keeping me there. Thrusting my hands into the ground I pulled out the largest piece of earth I could. Using compact earth I saw the large piece visibly condense then I dropped it straight onto the ant.

[Miniboss defeated: +200 XP due to large contribution]

"That was the miniboss?" One yelled.

Dropping to the ground I approached the crushed body of my fallen comrade. I pulled off the scraps of his clothes and broken spear.

"Take these back to the town" I commanded.

"Yes sir"

Watching as they retreated I made my way to the other end of the cavern continuing to throw the floor. Killing anything I came across.

[+60 XP]

[+70 XP].....

[Level up]

"Finally" I sighed out.

I spent the next day and a half making my way to the fifth floor. Approaching the class stone I noticed it had changed a bit. It now had some sort of symbols on it. Placing my hand on the stone I waited for a notification.

[Congratulations you are the first person to reach level twenty. Warning class selection unavailable as compensation will be provided. You will receive an additional two free points per level and choose from four abilities]

Weapon maker: Your earthbender becomes more versatile allowing you to make weapons as strong and sharp as any other.

Lava bending: Melted rock is your ally, like earth you have the ability to bend this substance into existence and manipulate it.

Metal Bending: Metal like rock comes from the earth, the less pure the metal the more you can bend it.

Golem: This ability allows you to cover your entire body in an armor of earth.

"Well, these are some options" I commented to myself "Bend metal? Didn't even know that is a thing"

Looking over the options I saw the benefit of each option but also the downsides of choosing some of them. Finally, I chose what I thought was best.

[Golem chosen]

Using my new ability, I felt and saw as the rock around me moved, condensing on my body. It felt as if I grew a few feet. My arms became separated boulders and a small slit opened in front of my eyes to allow me to see.

"This is going to be useful" I said to myself. But remembering the recent death I deactivated my ability and left the tower.
