Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Gringotts
When Ian returned to the Leaky Cauldron, Old Tom was already closing the shop.
He was already used to this kind of sudden appearance, and said without even looking up: "It will close in a quarter of an hour. If you need anything, I suggest you come back tomorrow."
"It's me, Ian."
Old Tom, who had been busy, immediately looked up when he heard this.
He said happily, "I was just thinking that you might stay at Hogwarts today, after all, it's already so late. Is everything settled? I left you dinner in the kitchen if you need it."
Ian was touched by what he said. He saw that Old Tom really took good care of him. The principle of "like for like" is eternal.
He was not an ungrateful person. He secretly remembered Old Tom's kindness in his heart, but he just kept the words in his heart and there was no need to express them.
"Of course, everything is going well. I have to go get some dinner first. I just ate some candy all afternoon and I'm starving now."
As Ian spoke, he waved the train ticket and admission letter in his hand.
Today's dinner is quite rich, with bacon and sausage pizza, pumpkin porridge, mashed potatoes, and some fried cod.
Ian finished his meal quickly and returned to his room, leaning lazily on the bed, holding the box with pink petals given by Dumbledore in his hand.
After opening it, he found that there was a thoughtful instruction sheet inside, which recorded in detail how to use it to turn stones into gold.
While playing with the Philosopher's Stone, he began to daydream about the next question.
"This is a good start. At least the biggest hidden danger to the world's future can be safely eliminated, and Dumbledore doesn't have to die prematurely. Looking at his condition, he should be able to hold on for another few decades easily. This side is considered safe.
But in the end times... the vitality of this fungus is really weak, and I don't know if eating big melons can eliminate them from the root. Fiendfyre is definitely no problem, but it is difficult to control. In history, nine out of ten wizards who used Fiendfyre were burned to death by themselves."
The more Ian thought about it, the more headache he felt. However, he also knew that this was not something that could be solved in a short time, and there were more things to do tomorrow. He had to prepare the necessary things before school started.
Nothing happened that night. As soon as the sky brightened at dawn, Ian got up and washed up. There were many things that needed to be resolved today.
After all, Hogwarts is a full-time boarding school, which means it is easy to get in but difficult to get out, so he must make the best use of this day.
Ian greeted Old Tom and refused the breakfast he offered, then picked up the pound of gold he had made using the Philosopher's Stone while working overtime last night. Some rushed into Diagon Alley in a hurry. Ian, who was already familiar with the environment, went straight to Gringotts to start the first thing he planned for the day.
The towering white building refracted silver-grey rays of light in the morning light, appearing exceptionally bright. The twenty-foot bronze gate displayed the luxury of the financial oligarchs.
"It's a pity that her appearance is too bad."
Ian muttered under his breath, looking at the goblin standing at the door, a short creature with a pointed beard, exaggeratedly long fingers, and a dark face, a creature without any sense of beauty.
He found that these goblins really treated people differently. They would bow and greet some wizards who looked well-dressed when they passed by, but they would turn a deaf ear to some obviously sloppy and poor wizards, or Muggles who accompanied young wizards to exchange money.
It was obvious that Ian belonged to the former. The new emerald robe given by Madam Malkin, coupled with his naturally noble appearance and temperament, made the goblins on both sides of the gate bow to him and salute him before he even approached.
After passing the gate, they came to the second silver door. On the door were engraved those words that appeared most frequently in the heavens and all realms: "Please come in, stranger... those who blindly ask for things... those who want something for nothing... will be severely punished..."
The wide marble hall, with high tables on both sides and goblins busy doing something behind the tables. When Ian was seen, a short figure appeared out of nowhere and came to him silently.
"Welcome, distinguished guest, I am Yake, what can I do for you?"
Ian didn't say much nonsense. He nodded slightly and said indifferently, "I need to exchange some Galleons."
Seeing Ian's indifferent expression, the goblin named Yake became more respectful and bowed deeply again, his pointed nose almost touching the ground. He stood up and said, "Okay, sir, please follow me over here."
Soon, Ian had achieved the purpose of his trip, mainly because he didn't have to wait in line at all along the way.
It is worth mentioning that Ian did not choose to open a vault of his own, but chose to withdraw all the cash.
At this moment, Ian looked at the purse with the Gringotts logo in his hand and smiled bitterly. "1100 Galleons, not too good, not too bad, just passable. The price of gold in 1991 was about 350 US dollars per ounce, and now one pound is exchanged for 1.5 US dollars.
The gold that can be exchanged for about 1,700 Galleons was reduced by one third by the goblins. Well, forget it, this money can at least meet all the current needs, and I will settle the account with them later."
