Chapter 04
Pei Jiuzhi walked slowly into the Yunli Hall of the Yundu Palace.
The sword he carried on his back made him look like a wandering swordsman, making him appear very out of place in this royal palace.
He was the first person who has ever been permitted to walk into the Yunli Palace with a weapon on his back.
“Juizhi.” The majestic voice of the emperor carried through the hall.
Pei Chu, wearing the imperial crown on his head, greeted him.
The man noticed the injury on Pei Jiuzhi’s palm at a glance.
“Jiuzhi, what happened to your hand?” Pei Chu asked.
“Father, I hurt myself.” Pei Jiuzhi said calmly.
Pei Chu only stood in front of him, and didn’t make any moves to approach closer. Pei Jiuzhi seemed to keep the emperor of Yundu in a separate world.
“What? I already know the matters that you asked Xu Ling to investigate. What happened to you in Prince Jing’s mansion?” Pei Chu frowned, a little worried.
In front of outsiders, this untouchable emperor has always been serious, rigidly maintaining the distinction between monarch and minister, even to his own children.
For example, he didn’t use Prince Jing’s name just now.
But to Pei Jiuzhi, he didn’t seem to be like this. The conversation between the two was more like a conversation between an ordinary father and son.
“I was drugged, and I was with a woman in Prince Jing’s mansion…”
Pei Jiuzhi narrated the matter calmly, without any fluctuation in his tone.
“This—” Pei Chu was startled.
“Maybe it has something to do with my upcoming ceremony of offering sacrifices to the heavens. Father, let me handle this matter.”
Pei Jiuzhi still thought that after reporting, he would go back to Prince Jing’s mansion to look for the girl from last night in person.
“But the envoys from all directions are already waiting on the altar, and the prince and princess are also waiting for you.”
Pei Chu spoke in a deep voice: “The grand ceremony for offering sacrifices to heaven cannot be missed. If we can’t receive the blessing from the Immortal Island, those things that exist below the city of Yundu… they will be agitated, and chaos again.”
“Yes, I’ll preside over the offering ceremony first.” Pei Jiuzhi said.
“I will investigate this matter,” Pei Chu promised.
“That girl, I’ll look for her myself, just send Xu Ling to report to me every day.” Pei Jiuzhi said.
“It’s not just a girl.” Pei Chu sighed.
“Father, speak carefully.” Pei Jiuzhi stared at Pei Chu, his phoenix eyes were slightly raised, his expression was cold.
This meant that he seemed to be blaming the emperor for saying inappropriate words.
But Pei Chu didn’t get angry, and just nodded to Pei Jiuzhi
Pei Jiuzhi is not the biological child of Emperor Yundu.
On the day he was born, the sun and the moon reversed, the day turned into night, and the sky was full of shining lights.
Emperor Yundu Pei Chu followed the light and saw a baby lying on the place where the auspiciousness was most abundant.
He felt that the child was a blessing from heaven, so he adopted it and took it back.
Because there are eight brothers and sisters above Pei Jiuzhi, he was named Jiuzhi, which means a bright light that illuminates the way forward.
For some reason, Pei Chu always had an inexplicable respect for Pei Jiuzhi.
Because the emperor’s family is ruthless, he doesn’t have much paternal love for his offspring.
However, he has some affection for Pei Jiuzhi, who has no interests involved.
After all, among the nine sons and daughters of Emperor Yundu, only Pei Jiuzhi could not inherit the throne, so the Pei family’s affection for him was much purer.
According to the etiquette, Pei Jiuzhi approached the altar. Including him, there were seven people arranged to sit there, and he sat on top of the main seat.
The place where immortals live is called the Immortal Island, and it is said that the most powerful practitioners can be found there.
But the realm of the Immortal Island is very far away for ordinary people, the only intersection between them and the Immortal Island is——
Immortals will give their blessings to protect the mortal world, and mortals receive these powers through the ceremony of offering sacrifices to heaven.
Once ascending the altar, it is difficult to leave, so as not to interrupt the ceremony.
Pei Jiuzhi entered the formation for the ceremony and sat down.
Dazzling light shone around him, covering his figure, and he took out a talisman paper from his sleeve.
Pei Jiuzhi hadn’t cultivated this skill yet, he had only learned swordsmanship, but there had been a few monks in the place where he studied.
They can be regarded as Pei Jiuzhi’s elders on the training mountain. When Pei Jiuzhi returned to Yundu, they gave him some spells to use.
The spell does not need to be driven by mana. The one that Pei Jiuzhi took out just now can perform the technique of projecting a person outside of their body.
Pei Jiuzhi’s finger touched the edge of the sword, and blood dripped from it onto the charm.
The talisman twisted and folded itself into a small paper bird.
The paper bird flew away, with Pei Jiuzhi’s blood splattered on the paper.
The paper bird also began to change shape, turning into a vivid blue bird.
Now, Pei Jiuzhi can control the blue bird and do things from its perspective.
He knew that there was something strange about Guanlan Pavilion, so he decided to investigate it himself.
However, the clouds have been very windy these days, and the blue bird could not fly smoothly.
Pei Jiuzhi flew forward for a while, but was blown back by the wind, and it took several tries for him to return to Prince Jing’s mansion.
Wu Su’s life had returned to normal, and she felt that everything would be fine now that she had given back the fake pearl earrings.
She also heard that someone had come to investigate the lost earring, but the stewards didn’t find anything wrong.
Everyone in Prince Jing’s mansion had returned everything that was borrowed, so the investigation could only be temporarily put on hold.
Because of Pei Jiuzhi’s order, no one dared to make a fuss.
Wu Su felt that she had escaped a catastrophe.
Today, she was sitting in her room in a daze, thinking of going outside to look for some small animals that were about to die, and find some food.
Wei Li came to ask Wu Su to take over her shift again. Her job today was to go clean a courtyard in Prince Jing’s mansion that had not been used for a long time.
“Wu Su, I still want to go out to play, so you can go for me, that yard has nobody living in it at the moment, it’s very clean, just clean it up casually!”
Wei Li took her hand and spoke coquettishly.
Wu Su rubbed her eyes, and answered Wei Li softly, “Okay.”
She usually agrees to Wei Li’s requests, and if she doesn’t take over this job, she will have to go out anyway, to find something to eat.
“Wu Su, you are so kind.” Wei Li said falsely.
She doesn’t like Wu Su, but that doesn’t prevent her from saying nice things to Wu Su. Because of this, Wei Li can easily be liked by others.
Wu Su got up, took the tools, and walked to the old yard assigned to Wei Li.
“Let’s go! Lin Meng, let’s go out to play—” Wei Li smiled at Lin Meng.
“I should sweep too…” Lin Meng hesitated.
“It’s okay, I told her to do it all, I said I was supposed to take care of the yard alone.” Wei Li took Lin Meng’s hand and said casually.
“Let’s go—” The two of them left arm in arm.
They always suspected that Steward Lu in Prince Jing’s mansion had some secret relationship with Wu Su.
In fact, the reason Steward Lu had allowed Wu Su to work in Prince Jing’s mansion was very simple.
If she is given a job, Wu Su will really do it seriously.
Wu Su first swept the fallen leaves in the courtyard, collecting them in one place, and then piled them all under the locust tree in the yard as nourishment for the tree.
The locust tree in this yard is quite tenacious, Wu Su had already asked it several times if it was dying, and it lazily replied to Wu Su, “Not yet.”
When she finished sweeping, Wu Su drew a bucket of water from the well..
After soaking the rag in water and wringing it dry, she began to wipe the dusty courtyard door, not neglecting any corner.
Wu Su’s wiping movements are very mechanical. She has long been used to doing things in a routine way, and she continued steadily until she seemed to sense something.
She is a very immature monster whose only instinct is to survive.
Wu Su could sense the aura of dying creatures near her.
These so-called dying creatures, in her awareness, are those creatures who had a weak aura.
A bird flew down from the sky, and the aura she sensed from it was very weak – because it was originally a talisman made out of paper.
This little bird fits Wusu’s definition of a dying creature, so she washed her hands in the bucket and approached the little bird.
Pei Jiuzhi had not practised with talismans, and didn’t know how to use the spells. He didn’t expect that the blue bird created by the talisman would be so difficult to control.
It took him several tries to fly from the altar back to Prince Jing’s mansion.
In the past few days, his attendant Xu Ling came over and told him that the incense maker had been arrested, but it wasn’t the same one who had lit the incense for him that night.
Is the person pretending to be an incense maker just to force him to… do that with a woman?
Pei Jiuzhi decided to continue the investigation.
He flew towards a locust tree in an inconspicuous courtyard in Prince Jing’s mansion, and rested for a while.
The aura he attached to the paper bird is weak, and he needs to rest frequently.
While resting, he suddenly felt a pair of soft and cold hands lifting him down from the tree.
Wu Su tiptoed under the locust tree, and she found that there was indeed a small creature resting in the tree.
She thought that the life aura she felt was extremely weak, it must be dying.
This means that she can have something to eat.
Wu Su respected the creatures that could provide her with energy, and she lightly stroked the head of the little blue bird.
Pei Juizhi came to his senses after being touched by her, his hair standing on end.
The blue bird possessed by his spiritual consciousness fluttered its feathers, feeling that the hands holding him were somewhat familiar.
Pei Juizhi vaguely recalled the hand that had stroked his chest that night.
A moment after that, perhaps because he had caused her pain, her fingertips had pressed into his flesh, drawing a few drops of blood.
It hadn’t hurt, it had only made him more excited.
Is it these hands? Perhaps womens’ hands are all like this, he doesn’t know because he has only touched that one pair.
Pei Juizhi struggled a bit, trying to fly out of Wu Su’s hands.
But Wu Su lifted him up and placed him on her shoulder, and spoke softly.
“Poor little bird, are you going to die?”
