Chapter 24: Chapter 15 Evil

Evil, Hundred Infants!

Li Kefa and the others were horrified. Few evils were known in the city, and while they often heard of Evil Spirits lurking in the countryside, they had rarely seen such an eerie monster!

Only a few Government Officials who frequented the wilderness knew of this creature, rumored that the Hundred Infants haunted the night, excelled at mimicking human voices, liked to appear outside villages, hiding in the woods under the moonlight, emitting the cries of infants.

If someone from the village checked it out, they would be captured and devoured by it, leaving only their skin which remained dressed in their clothes.

The Hundred Infants would then control the skin, mimicking the person's speech to deceive more villagers to come out and check, devouring even more people.

There was once a village named Jianyang Village in Xinxiang County where a Hundred Infants appeared and deceived, devouring sixty percent of the villagers by luring them out of the village, leaving only the frail and sick behind.

However, the Hundred Infant was extremely rare and one of the stronger monsters among the Evil Spirits, and none of Li Kefa and his companions had expected, that on their first night walking through the countryside, they would encounter a Hundred Infant.

"Kill it!"

Someone shouted loudly, and the remaining Government Officials and Li Family masters urgently spurred their spells, and saw the air in front of them slightly tremor. The Hundred Infant's body clinked, and sparks flew as the Meridian Evil Slayer Sword's Sword Qi landed on it, chopping off the scales on its body!

The Meridian Evil Slayer Sword was invisible to the naked eye, formed of True Qi and Divine Power into a sword, making it nearly impossible to guard against.

Still, several Meridian Evil Slayer Sword strikes missed and chopped trees nearby, breaking trees as thick as water barrels in one strike with astonishing power!

Yet, such powerful Spells only managed to chop a few scales off the Hundred Infant's body, failing to injure it.

"Chink! Chink! Chink!"

People continuously released spells, the massive body of the Hundred Infant kept being hit, with Sword Qi slicing into its flesh, causing blood to splatter everywhere.

Some struck its neck, and heads got chopped off, hitting the ground only to see the infantile limbs flailing as they rapidly crawled toward them, wailing loudly.

However, as they crawled, they gradually slowed down, eventually losing their vitality and turning into a heap of rotten flesh, emitting a foul smell.

The surrounding trees also suddenly fell victim, collapsing one after another.

Defeated, the Hundred Infant suddenly sank on all fours and ran away, causing trees to collapse in its wake, escaping deep into the mountains and leaving a trail of green blood behind.

The group calmed down, each feeling lingering trepidation in their hearts.

Li Kefa looked around and realized that out of their group of more than fifty people, over ten were missing.

Qu Ji whispered, "Sir, should we find a place to camp..."

Li Kefa glanced at him darkly, and Qu Ji dared not continue.

"Keep going, we must reach Huangpo Village tonight!" commanded Li Kefa.

The people, huddling around Li Kefa, headed toward Huangpo Village.

The few Government Officials at the back always felt uneasy, looking around suspiciously as they feared other Evil Spirits might be hiding in the woods or that something was following them.

"Old He, stop being so paranoid and looking back all the time."

A Government Official joked with an older companion, "Your constant looking back is making me jittery too..."

Before he could finish speaking, the older Government Official turned his head, and suddenly his neck made an abrupt snap, and his head drooped powerlessly backward!

His neck, as if boneless, hung down with the back of his skull resting against his back.

The government official screamed in terror, hurriedly looking back, only to feel strong hands grasping his own neck.

"Crack!"

His neck broke, and his head drooped backward onto his back!

The other Government Officials panicked, each hurriedly conjured their Divine Power, preparing spells as they looked back.

However, as soon as anyone looked back, their necks would immediately break, and their heads would droop backward!

Evil, Neck-Snapping Herb.

"Everyone, don't look back!"

Qu Ji, drenched in cold sweat, shouted, "This must be another kind of Evil, any backward glance will break your neck! If you don't look back, you'll be fine!"

The group, tiptoeing, closely huddled together and moved forward, and indeed, no further incidents happened.

One person sighed with relief and said, "Qu Ji was right..."

"Whoosh—"

Suddenly, he was pulled into the sky with great force, and as the group looked up, they could only hear cries of agony echoing from above, flying at a terrifying speed towards the sky.

Evil, Traction Worm.

"The third kind of Evil!"

The crowd, sweating coldly, even Li Kefa, despite being a master at the Divinity Transformation Stage, couldn't help but silently regret.

"What kind of godforsaken place is this countryside of Xinxiang, filled with Evils everywhere?"

At that moment, the sound of horns and suonas came from ahead, sounding cheerful. Under the moonlight, numerous humanoid foxes stood up, playing instruments and singing, dancing odd dance steps as they approached.

Behind them, a blood-red palanquin floated in the air, swaying along with the music.

The palanquin curtains were lifted by the wind, revealing a bride in phoenix crown and bridal attire inside, next to a terrified scholar, probably an unfortunate soul who hadn't managed to hide in the village before nightfall.

As the curtains were lifted again by the wind, the bride inside still looked beautiful, but the scholar had vanished, leaving only a skeleton behind.

The bright red palanquin seemed even redder.

"It's a Specter!"

In a panic, the group unleashed various spells at the foxes and palanquin.

A chilly wind blew, and all kinds of Sword Qi dissolved in the wind. Suddenly, the palanquin curtains flew open, and the archivist Qu Ji appeared inside, sitting next to the ghost bride, his face filled with horror.

Li Kefa snorted coldly, spurred the Divine Embryo which in the Divine Chamber suddenly grew immensely large, and reached out towards the bright red palanquin.
