...
Her beloved's words reached deep into Fiona's heart, touching her.
"I-I will love you forever too" - she said.
This was the situation she had been wanting for years. The truth is that in the orphanage there were a large number of books and among them there were love stories. Stories that often all the girls usually read. Those stories they told were almost fantastic for them and they all dreamed that one day, they could have a man to love them so much. Fiona was one of those dreamy girls who always wished she had a man by her side. A man who would utter those words. A man who loved her. A man who would take care of her forever, until eternity.
Since, as long as they remained in the loops, they were technically immortal, they could both live together for eternity, enjoying their love every day until the end of the world and even beyond. That is why, when Jacob arrived, she saw in him an opportunity to fulfill her most cherished dream. As mentioned above, Fiona instantly fell in love with Jacob, as soon as she saw him. Knowing that he was Abe's grandson was nothing more than a small surprise that soon passed away. In fact, for many years, Fiona was envious of Olive and Emma for fulfilling her dream with Abe. But when he left them and left, he realized that Olive and Emma must have suffered a tremendous shock because the man they loved, the man they trusted. Her prince charming and soulmate... he had abandoned them and started a family without them. Fiona can't even imagine the pain Emma and Olive felt at that moment and now that she had found her beloved, she was afraid that the same thing would happen to her.
Unfortunately, Fiona wasn't as mentally strong as Olive and Emma and if Jacob abandoned her... I didn't know if I could get over it.
"Jacob... You'll never leave me, will you?" – Fiona suddenly asked.
His question left me puzzled for a few moments, but I suddenly understood. Fiona had experienced firsthand how my grandfather abandoned Olive and Emma to go with another woman and start a family away from them and she was afraid that I would do the same. But not because I was Abe's grandson, but because I was afraid that he would do the same as him and abandon her, leaving her alone just like my grandfather did with Emma and Olive. For someone who saw that situation from so close, it is normal to have that fear. So I did the only thing I could do in this situation, what a man should do in these cases, hug her.
"I would rather die than abandon you. You are my family, my wife and I would never abandon you. I know that the words I say are very beautiful and even that you still harbor doubts in your heart despite saying them. But I swear to you, I swear to you that in time you will understand that my words are not just that: "words", but reality" – I said.
I have said it dozens of times and I will continue to say it as many times as necessary. For me, family is the most important thing, above anything else in this world and I will protect it with all my being. I won't let anyone hurt my family and if anyone dares to try... that he prepares to die, because the moment he catches him, the moment he finds him, next year on that same date they will celebrate his funeral and it is not a bluff. I never bluff, nor do I promise things I can't keep.
Hearing those words, Fiona calmed down a little. However, Jacob was right, because despite his beautiful words, Fiona still harbored certain doubts in her heart. But Jacob said that one day he would understand his words and prove them to be true, that he would make all his doubts disappear. So she would wait, wait for that day to come and make all her doubts disappear without a trace.
The two hugged each other for a while while the sun set over the horizon and night was present. While the beautiful flowers swayed in the sudden breeze. While two lovers swore eternal love sitting and leaning their bodies against a huge tree that witnessed their promise of eternal love. A love that would last forever.
…
After a while of being cuddly, Fiona and I decided to go back to the orphanage. It was late enough, and I was sure that Miss Peregrine would scold us again. So we quickly left the place and arrived at the mansion before we knew it.
We thought we could go through the door and enter as if nothing had happened, without alerting Miss Peregrine to our tardiness. However, once again I underestimated Miss Peregrine and her ability to control time because when we opened the door, she was already there waiting for us.
"Mr. Portman, Miss Fiona, you are 5 minutes late. What's your excuse this time?" – Miss Peregrine asked while looking at her pocket watch.
"It was my fault, we had a lot of fun in our... appointment and when we realized it was too late. I apologize for both of them and I promise it won't happen again" – I said leaning my body.
As much as I don't agree with the curfew. This is Miss Peregrine's orphanage and as long as I live here or even visit (for the time being), I will have to follow their rules.
"Y-I apologize too. I didn't realize the time" – Fiona said making the same gesture.
Miss Peregrine looked curiously at both of them and saw them holding hands. That's right, without realizing it, they both remained with their hands clasped all the way. Even now they had their hands clasped and they didn't even realize it.
"They are forgiven. Also, congratulations on your relationship" – said Miss Peregrine.
At that moment I realized that Fiona and I were still holding hands. That's why Miss Peregrine noticed our new relationship.
"G-Thank you, Miss Peregrine" – Fiona said embarrassed.
But his whole face was redder than a ripe tomato.
"This time they are forgiven by the circumstances. But Mr. Portman, on your next date (whatever girl it is), please make sure you keep track of the time. I don't want any unforeseen events next time" – said Miss Peregrine.
It seems that she had already found out about the dates she had been having. Although we are honest, it is normal because two days ago the same thing happened, but with Olive. Miss Peregrine probably sensed what we were doing and that's why she was being more permissive with this matter.
"Of course. I promise you that next time I'll make sure to keep track of the time" – I nodded.
Something tells me that my date with Fiona is not the last one I will have. Is it possible that tomorrow when Bronwyn comes she will be waiting for me at the entrance of the loop? Something tells me that it will be like that because it has already happened three times. It cannot be a coincidence.
"That's enough for me. Come in and let's enjoy a nice evening" – said Miss Peregrine.
In order not to bore you, I will summarize what happened. We enjoyed a nice dinner and then a black and white movie projected by Horace. But most exciting of all were the looks Fiona and I gave each other from time to time. These looks went unnoticed by the boys who were focused on watching the film. But the girls were much more perceptive and noticed our abundant but fleeting glances. I know this because I could see each one frowning slightly, as if they were jealous or something.
Since I know 100% that they all have feelings for me, it's easy to deduce that they're jealous of Fiona and that they'll probably interrogate Fiona late into the night after I leave. So tomorrow, when I return, everyone will know that Fiona and I are a couple. I'm sure of that.
Anyway, after enjoying a pleasant evening, it was time to leave. It was late and my father would probably be worried about me, so I left after saying goodbye to everyone and secretly kissing Fiona so that no one would see him. Of course I'm not going to hide my relationship from everyone. We'll reveal it to everyone in due course, something Fiona agreed with.
After exiting the loop I could see that the weather in Cairnholm was a bit worse than yesterday. Today the clouds filled the sky making the moon and stars unvisible in the slightest.
"Today has been one of the best days of my life. I finally have a girlfriend who loves me because I am Jacob and not because I have money and power. If what I feel right now is love mixed with happiness, I don't want this feeling to go away. I want to feel this way forever" – I said with a smile.
And so, with a smile, I headed to the hotel. Normally no incident would have occurred along the way. After all, who was going to be on a beach at this time of night? But as I was about to leave the beach, to the other side of the beach and far away from where the loop was, I saw something very strange. It was a man with a tent next to him and with numerous devices that due to the darkness I could not discern. But I did observe something very strange. That man (or woman because I couldn't see him clearly due to the darkness), was using binoculars, which surprised me. It's nighttime and they were literally ordinary binoculars. What is someone doing looking through binoculars at night if they literally can't see anything? It looked quite suspicious, so without making any noise to avoid being seen, I headed to the hotel while thinking carefully about what I had just seen.
