Chapter 4 - Let's Raise Our Tier (1)
Chapter 4 – Let’s Raise Our Tier (1)
[Power Slam!]
“Ah, it’s too fast.”
“·····”
Jason’s lightning explosion after passing through the acceleration gate.
Park Jimin, who couldn’t dodge Lee Jonghyun’s attack, said with regret.
This was the first hit he allowed in this game. And he got hit while standing next to a minion.
‘Does that make sense?’
Since starting Sol, Jonghyun had always been praised for his skills.
The proof was that he maintained Diamond tier both last year and this year, despite playing as a hobby.
That Jonghyun confidently picked Jason as his first pick.
But until just now in practice mode, he was struggling against a beginner who had been asking why this champion didn’t have an ultimate.
It clearly wasn’t perfect play. There was a slight awkwardness in skill utilization, which was Jason’s core strength.
But when he tried to simply hit, he couldn’t connect, and when he tried to dodge, he couldn’t escape.
Somehow, the advantage gained from early trades was being eroded.
“Ah!”
“Whoa!”
Yoon Sangchul, who was standing nearby, was surprised.
As Jimin’s skill combos became smoother and more natural, Jonghyun, who had approached first, was beaten back instead.
“·····”
Sangchul glanced at Jimin.
He was focusing with such sharp eyes that Sangchul wondered if this was the same innocent friend he knew.
[To the sky!]
“Huh?”
Jonghyun tried to hit the enemy champion with a simple technique, aiming his hammer form Q at the minions, but Jimin slightly dodged with his movement, and once again allowed a trade in his favor.
“Hey, I’m dying here.”
“Sigh·····”
Jonghyun retreats.
Now he might get knocked down by a Q through the acceleration gate.
“·····”
Fortunately, he narrowly avoided Jimin’s accelerated Q. The opponent approaches slowly.
“Huh?”
Suddenly Jonghyun’s Jason regained health. It was from eating a biscuit. Jimin, who was completely ignorant about runes, hadn’t considered this possibility.
“Oh no.”
“What a shame.”
On top of that, Jimin accidentally took a tower hit, and while he was flustered, Jonghyun dove in and executed a full combo.
The result was Jonghyun’s solo kill. This 1v1 ended in Jimin’s defeat.
“Wow, Jonghyun really is amazing.”
“Haha·····”
Jonghyun managed to preserve his dignity as a Diamond player.
“This is absolutely unbelievable.”
“Huh?”
Jonghyun stared at the monitor before leaning back in his PC room chair.
His face looked exhausted, like someone who couldn’t breathe for a moment and then finally could.
‘Actually facing them one-on-one…..’
The cliché expression of being unable to breathe fits perfectly. It was just too stifling.
Movements so incredible that it made him wonder if they were using the same champion, or even playing the same game. Had he ever felt something like this before?
The more bewildering fact was that Jimin clearly showed a lack of champion proficiency.
Yet he could feel Jimin’s skill growing at a frightening pace, right up until the solo kill.
“Jimin, you’re beyond just being naturally talented.”
“What?”
Jonghyun’s high praise. Jimin had a blank expression.
“It’s true, watching from the side makes it even more impressive. When you dodged that accelerated Q coming from outside your vision earlier, it gave me chills.”
“Is, is it really that good?”
“And you don’t even know champion skills that well. This kind of dodging usually only comes from lots of practice and experience against those moves.”
Sangchul, sitting nearby, was even more amazed.
Jimin didn’t know it, but while Sangchul’s solo rank skills might be lower than Jonghyun’s, his theoretical knowledge was far superior, making his opinion more credible.
“Then…..”
Jimin cautiously opened his mouth.
“I could reach Diamond too, right? And…..”
Though he couldn’t properly tell his friends yet, this was an extremely important point.
“I could do well even at that level.”
Getting matched with Yoo Dahee while she’s streaming, playing together. And receiving praise for playing well.
Nothing was more important than that right now.
“Diamond? Come on, Diamond is nothing.”
“Huh?”
Jonghyun spoke as if he found it absurd.
“After facing you directly, I think you could go beyond Diamond.”
“Beyond?”
“Yeah.”
“How far?”
“Uh….. well…..”
Jonghyun couldn’t easily answer Jimin’s question.
Of course, the reason was simple.
“I don’t know.”
“Huh?”
It was because he had never reached that level himself.
Of course, he wasn’t without experience seeing opponents he thought were really good move up to the highest ranks.
But Jimin, his friend, was clearly different from those types.
It was impossible to predict his potential.
[Going crazy.]
“Oh, nice.”
“It’s growing so fast.”
“Heh…”
As the tension eased slightly when the enemy champion died, Jimin smiled at his friends’ praise.
-[All] Kshande: Jason, stop smurfing and stomping noobs?-
“Smurfing and stomping?”
“Jimin, turn off the enemy chat.”
“Why?”
“It’s just better that way.”
The first step to truly enjoying LoL. It’s better to use the chat function as little as possible.
While team chat might still be useful for Jimin who’s a beginner in theory, all-chat is absolutely harmful with no benefits.
Following Jonghyun’s serious advice, the obedient Jimin turned off all-chat.
[Victory!]
“Oh, we won…”
His first solo ranked game. And a victory.
Jimin felt dazed after winning his first game with three solo kills against his opponent.
Even though his two friends were watching beside him, winning a game played essentially alone with nine strangers was quite something.
“Look at this?”
“Huh? Damage dealt to enemy champions?”
Sangchul showed Jimin an unfamiliar graph.
“You’re in first place by almost double.”
“Ah…”
“I thought it would be even higher, but it’s less than I expected.”
Jonghyun said with a smile.
From level 1, he had been beating up the enemy Kshande as Jason, and after getting fed, he crushed the enemy team’s morale with his merciless poking accuracy.
“Now let’s go for the second game.”
“Watching this from the side feels like watching a stomping stream. It’s fun.”
Sangchul, who had enjoyed watching LoL streamers since elementary school, watched Jimin’s second placement match with an interested expression.
In front of them, the signature menu of this PC bang, spicy chicken, was already empty.
“Ah, darn it.”
“Oh no.”
Jimin, who picked Rumble for the second game, died to the enemy jungle Khazix’s gank.
“It’s okay, Rumble is good against Yohone.”
Jimin died once, but he has teleport. It shouldn’t be a problem.
“Huh?”
“What, he’s coming again?”
Khazix came again and took down Jimin’s Rumble.
Since Rumble had been consistently pressuring Yohone in the lane, he was positioned aggressively forward, and his team’s vision control wasn’t great.
“Ah, this game seems a bit difficult? I’m missing a summoner spell too.”
“No, we need games like this too.”
“Ah…..”
For the first time in these two days, Jimin felt a sense of helplessness. He couldn’t hide his disappointment.
‘This is why it’s solo queue.’
Sol isn’t a 1v1 game. Clearly, Jimin was once again dominating the enemy top laner in trades, but that doesn’t guarantee victory in the game.
But experiences like these accumulate and become assets…..
“Ooh, he hit again!”
“Huh?”
Sangchul was excited. Jonghyun looked sheepish.
Jimin landed his harpoon on Yohone three times in a row.
Conversely, he dodged most of Yohone’s attacks, so his health remained steady.
Clearly, Jimin’s Rumble was 0/3/0 while the enemy Yohone was 1/0/2, but they were at the same level, and Jimin was ahead by 20 CS.
“Ooh, he dodged that one well.”
“This is pretty significant.”
The enemy jungler Khazix and Yohone rushed at Rumble in a 2v1, but with Jimin’s skillful ultimate usage, they retreated after only burning summoner spells.
Having abandoned jungle camps to come top and still losing a chunk of health, it was quite a painful situation for them.
“Our Karthus has gotten really strong, hasn’t he?”
“Well, he’s been playing PvE, so he should be strong.”
There weren’t any particular incidents in the bottom lane, but the allied jungler Karthus had been quietly farming the jungle and had grown quite strong.
[Double Kill! Triple Kill!]
“We won…..”
“Oh, that Zhonya’s timing was good.”
Laying down his ultimate, activating Zhonya’s, and then using his flamethrower.
It was the perfect scenario for a Rumble with only damage items to shine in a team fight.
[Victory!]
“Carry! So easy, so easy.”
“Whew…..”
Jimin smiled proudly as he listened to Sangchul’s breathless cheering.
“Do you see Conqueror?”
“No, try this instead.”
“Huh?”
For the third game, Jimin’s champion was Aatrox.
Sangchul was about to teach him the Conqueror build, but Jonghyun showed him the Electrocute build instead.
“Isn’t Aatrox too squishy with Electrocute?”
“But the damage is incredible. And it’s hard to counter.”
“That’s true, but hmm…..”
Sangchul wanted to suggest the more stable Conqueror build, but Jonghyun recommended the powerful Electrocute build.
Considering Jimin’s mechanics and the growth and recovery he showed in the previous game, this seemed right.
“Watching Jimin play, I think it’s better for him to go aggressive like this and climb tiers quickly.”
“Is that so?”
No matter how confident one is in theory, rank is king.
Jimin, who didn’t quite understand what the two were talking about, scratched his head and selected the runes that Jonghyun, the winner, chose for him.
[DOUBLE KILL!]
-[Team] Arin: What did I just witness?-
-[Team] Ezreal: That damage is insane-
-[Team] Jinjjao: Aatrox is seriously broken-
-[Team] Naming: Let’s take Baron, boys^^-
“Wow, that’s crazy! Is this Electrocute Aatrox?”
“Aatrox seems to be the champion I’m most proficient with.”
“Is that so?…”
Jimin, who had instantly killed the enemy ADC and jungler in the side lane, said.
A fed 3-core Aatrox after securing two solo kills.
On top of that, he had demolished a decently sized enemy champion with a perfect combo using his greatsword.
-[Team] Jinjjao: Thanks for the carry, Aatrox hyung-
-[Team] Arin: Everyone report Jinjjao, we wasted like 10 extra minutes because of him-
-[Team] Jinjjao: Your mom-
[VICTORY!]
“…”
“It’s better not to look at team chat later on.”
Jimin quietly nodded.
“We played three games and won them all? That’s great.”
“We can finish placements tomorrow.”
“Hehe…”
It was time for Jonghyun to go to his part-time job, and naturally, the time with friends was coming to an end.
***
“Ah…”
[No stream today! Sorry everyone.]
Jimin, who had turned on his computer to watch on a bigger screen, was frustrated.
He had planned to enjoy Yoo Dahee’s first livestream after hanging out with his friends, but this happened.
“Hmm, anyway, my rank is still low.”
While watching the livestream would have been fun, his bigger dream was to meet her in the game.
There were still some videos on YouTube he hadn’t watched yet, so he decided to console himself with those.
“The enemy Lee Sin ganked three times, but what is our Master Yi doing?”
-Why would Master Yi gank-
-Master Yi is busy jungling and laning ㅡㅡ-
-Isn’t ganking about getting something in return?-
-Hey now!-
-Fact ban.-
“That’s strange.”
Jimin still can’t get used to it.
Isn’t the jungler there to help the laners? Then everyone supporting Dahee should be cursing Master Yi together.
“Oh right!”
Jimin pressed pause for a moment.
And searches for the video he watched yesterday.
Not to watch it again.
“·····”
Gulp.
Why does this make him so nervous?
‘I wonder if she saw it?’
The long comment he posted yesterday. He really put his heart into it.
Honestly, he thinks it’s a bit childish, but….. he still hopes she read it.
He carefully scrolls down.
He didn’t check all morning because he was afraid of disappointment…..
“Huh?”
[Just discovered this today and really enjoyed watching. Found out through a friend, and I’ve never seen someone as pretty as you, noona haha. And you’re so good at gaming too…..] -See more-
ㄴ @YudaiTV ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
ㄴ Huh? What’s this
ㄴ Can’t believe he left this comment
Gasp.
Jimin covered his mouth in shock.
She even liked his comment.
And now that he looks at it, comments that got replies from the YouTuber aren’t visible anywhere else in this video!
“Ugh…..”
‘What should I do.’
He likes her even more now, to a degree he can’t even understand himself.
