Chapter - Hollow

"Morning."

"Morning," Ron replied. "Thanks." He took the cup of tea from Harry and sipped it. "How was last night?"

"Fun. I managed to get the win this time," Harry replied, sipping a cup of coffee.

"Oh you guys played that? Dang, sad I missed it. I want in next time," Ron remarked.

"Bad date then?"

"No it was fine, why? What'd you hear?" Ron asked, narrowing his eyes and looking around.

"Just thinking it was a bad date if you're sad you missed a game night," Harry said.

"Oh well, I mean, I can enjoy one thing and still be sad I missed something else, you know? Not like I said I was upset I missed it. That'd be unreasonable."

"That's true," Harry grinned. "You might be a tablespoon now."

"Hey, give me more credit," Ron protested. "I'm a ladle at least."

"A regular ladle or a Weasley ladle?"

"Probably not as deep as a Weasley one," Ron said and the two men laughed.

"Yet," Harry said. "So you said you got something on your coin case?"

"I did." Ron gestured to an array of Knuts, Sickles, and Galleons on the table in front of him. "After counting all the money we found at the raid, I checked them for curses and other odd spells and found these. These all had strange spells on them and after some more testing, we found out why we couldn't quite find all of them."

Ron took a long sip of tea while Harry waited patiently. "Long sip for dramatic effect," Ron said and smiled when Harry snorted, "but yeah, so I knew how much were cursed the day we found them, came back later and found more cursed coins. At first I wondered if I miscounted so I counted them again and had two other people count them and write the number down and put them away, in case we influenced each other. Came back later and there were even more and we all counted the same before."

"The curse is spreading on its own?" Harry asked, blinking.

Ron nodded. "A version of the Gemino Curse. Instead of duplicating the object, it's duplicating the spell onto an uncursed coin. We did some more testing and it won't travel to anything that isn't Wizarding money. We put it next to other metal, metallic objects, and even Muggle money. Didn't change."

"That's tricky magic," Harry said admiringly.

"And we figured out what it was doing too," Ron said. "The actual curse besides the Gemino." He looked at Harry soberly. "It's degrading the value of the coins."

"As in physically?" Harry asked, feeling a chill.

"Yeah. You know that each coin holds a specific amount of the main metal in it as in gold for Galleons, silver for Sickles, and bronze for Knuts. The amount is regulated by Gringotts and that's what gives them their value. Except this curse was making the metal weaker, tarnishing it."
